IMPORTANT: When I check your completed citations, the cited sources must lead me to the complete articles on the Internet, not a summary, abstract, review, or recapitulation of the articles. This assignment is to develop one Works Cited page that includes a full citation for each of the following sources. One page, five citations. Certain information is required in a citation, and there is a specific order in which to list the components of a citation. The “Additional Example of a Works Cited Page” and other handouts list the information and the order. Here it is again. • Last name, first name of the author followed by a period. If the source has no author, begin the citation with the title of the article. • The title of the article followed by a period within quotation marks. • The date of the article (day, month, and year) followed by a period. • The name of the Website (italicized) followed by a period. • The full Web page address (URL) without the https://www. • Place a period at the end of the URL. • The date the student accessed the Web page followed by a period. If the article is not dated, use the abbreviation n.d. in place of the date. If the article has no date and no author, seriously question its credibility. There are some exceptions. For example, do not list an author or a date for versions of the Bible. The partial bibliographical information is below. 1. During your online research to complete each citation, if any of the Websites ask you to register or subscribe to anything, my advice is to not register or subscribe. Instead, search for another source. As of the date of this assignment, I located the articles without having to register or subscribe to any Website. All sources must be found online, and the exact, full URL (Internet address) must be included in the Works Cited page citation. Do not use the word Web, the protocol http://, or the sub-domain (host) www in your citations. Daily Writing 3.1 is not an essay assignment. Draft a descriptive and motivating (persuasive) marketing claim (300 words minimum) that describes of the following products offered by Thomas Crapper & Company, Ltd.

Make sure to include the price (in U.S. dollars) for the product in the text of the essay.

Include an underlined thesis (sales pitch) in the first paragraph of your essay.

Recall that a claim is an argument (thesis, opinion); a sales pitch is an argument (thesis, opinion).

Identify the product that you select. With guidance that follows and from Chapter 14, embed a small image of the product within the text of your essay. The image can be no larger than 2” x 2” (192 pixels x 192 pixels). The expression “embedded within” means that the image must be surrounded by text on three sides. The image must be from the Thomas Crapper Website. To study an example of a Crapper essay that includes an image that is “embedded within” the text of an essay look at the attachment below.

Restrict your research to the Thomas Crapper & Company, Ltd. Website. Your job as a writer-seller is to argue for one of the products and to persuade prospective customers to eagerly purchase the product that you chose.

IMPORTANT 10% of the grade: In addition, with information obtained from the Thomas Crapper Website, part of a supporting paragraph in the text of your essay (10 points) shall include whether Thomas Crapper invented the modern flush toilet (W.C.). Also provide a second citation on the Works Cited page for the source of that information from the Crapper Website. Do not use any source that is not on the Crapper Website.

Include with your essay two in-text citations in the body and three full citations on a Works Cited page. The product citation must begin with the name of the product as it is displayed on the Crapper Website.

The second citation on your Works Cited page must cite where, on the Thomas Crapper Website, you found the information concerning whether Crapper invented the modern flush toilet (W.C.). In the body of your essay, include a direct quotation from the page concerning the invention of the modern flush toilet.

The third citation must cite the embedded image of your product.

To clarify a point of style, the writing found on the Crapper Website uses rules of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling commonly found in British English usage, a crude language that was once used by American colonialists who became patriots and eventually refined the English language so that we could understand each other by speaking and writing actual English.

Since the assignment is to write a “sales pitch,” it is acceptable to use forms of the pronoun “you” and contractions without penalty on this assignment only.

Begin the Works Cited page at the end of your essay or research paper. The page must be titled Works Cited centered at the top of the page, followed by the three citations, correctly formatted. The Works Cited page must be numbered. For example, if the last page of the text of your essay is 2, then the Works Cited page will begin on Page 3.

While you review the model essay in the “Handouts and Course Documents” section, notice that there is one short quote (from research) in the paper. Most of the writing in the paper is created by the student, not quoted from another source.
